In October 2023, RPOSD underwent an internal reorganization and created a new section dedicated to a more robust implementation of the Technical Assistance Program (TAP) and oversight of the awarded programmatic grants. The section’s primary focus is to foster equitable funding and increase access to green spaces and recreational programs for historically underserved areas of Los Angeles County.
The new section actively engages with the agencies overseeing the High and Very High Need Study Areas in the County, by providing guidance, support, and funding to facilitate the development of new parks. A central feature of TAP is the funding for these agencies to hire consultants to assist them in the realization of their park projects, such as land inventories, environmental testing, conceptual designs, and grant writing.
Additionally, this new section oversees the programmatic grants that provide youth and veterans with job training and certification to gain employment in the parks and recreation profession, and recreational programming that offers opportunities for outdoor activities, cultural enrichment, and educational experiences.
