Celebrating 30 Years of Grantmaking 1024 813 RPOSD

Celebrating 30 Years of Grantmaking

The Los Angeles County Regional Park and Open Space District (RPOSD) turns 30 years old today!

Three decades ago, Proposition A was approved through a Special Election and established this District to be the stewards of parks and open space throughout the County.  It is easy to forget that it wasn’t so long ago when RPOSD was not meant to reach this milestone since Proposition A was set to sunset back in 2019. This expectation was flipped when an impressive 75% of LA County Voters approved Measure A in 2016, solidifying funding for parks and open space for the foreseeable future.

This District is built upon the belief that empowering people with better access to parks and open spaces means a greater quality of life for the entire community.  The recent years proved that not only do “Parks Make Life better,” but also highlighted the crucial role of parks and open spaces in our communities when it comes to our health and safety.  One cannot deny the incredible amount of work and heart behind RPOSD’s achievements over the span of three decades to get to where we are today. Accumulatively we’ve awarded $1.5 billion in funding towards parks and open spaces, which could not have been possible without the trailblazing work of the RPOSD family– both past and present.

We will share more about how the District celebrated this milestone in our next newsletter, which will be posted online once available.

Happy Birthday, RPOSD – and cheers to 30 years of grantmaking for parks and open spaces!
