Natural Connections
The Natural Connections Program is an outdoor access initiative designed for low-income youth and community members in Southeast Los Angeles County, with a focus on the cities of South Gate, Cudahy, Lynwood, and Huntington Park.
The program hosts at least 220 trips to natural outdoor spaces, providing participants with meaningful outdoor experiences. These trips recruit youth through partnerships with local public agencies, schools, school districts, and community-based organizations, ensuring broad engagement and accessibility.
In its first year, the program expanded outdoor access by offering free trips to 1,967 participants. Attendees were provided free transportation, supplies, and meals, making recreational activities more accessible for low-income youth and fostering a stronger connection between people and nature.
To ensure participant safety, TreePeople provided First Aid and CPR training for program staff, reinforcing a safe and supportive environment throughout the Natural Connections Program.
