Field Ranger Program
The Field Ranger Program’s overarching goal includes the restoration of the Angeles National Forest’s (ANF) Field Ranger Program back to full capacity. The Field Ranger program was established in the Angeles National Forest following the designation of the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument (SGMNM) in 2014. The program provides increased visitor services in high-use recreation areas of the SGMNM and ANF by employing diverse candidates via partnerships and service-learning programs that create training opportunities for aspiring environmental professionals.
At the end of the first year, the program successfully trained 3 individuals. They all completed their internship and received California Naturalist Certifications. One of the participants completed their requirements for a Noncompetitive Hiring Authority with Federal Government soon after program completion.
