On February 25, 2025, RPOSD awarded $17 million in grants through the Measure A Park Land Acquisition Competitive Grant Program, marking the largest parkland expansion effort in RPOSD’s 31-year history. The 13 awarded projects represented a diverse range of acquisitions, from urban pocket parks to large-scale open space preservation, and created 623 acres of new parkland. More than 50% of the grant funding was directed and awarded to high park need communities where access to green space had historically been limited. The acquisition of these 623 acres was a significant achievement in reducing park inequities and brought Los Angeles County one step closer to a greener, healthier future for all.
