Bassett Park, located in La Puente, is more like an event venue masquerading as a neighborhood park! The park houses one of the best soccer fields for year-round play, a splash pad that looks like it belongs in an amusement park, and a thrilling skate park. Grant funds were used to refurbish the park irrigation and drainage systems, construction of a shade shelter, ADA access walkway, installation of drinking fountains, BBQ braziers, picnic tables, and installation of a splash pad. Glendale Narrows Riverwalk is a carefully constructed half mile recreational trail for pedestrians and bicylists located on the north bank of the Los Angeles River in the City of Glendale across from Griffith Park. The trail is paved with asphalt and includes a small entry park that serves as a staging area for hikers and bicyclists; a separate staging area for equestrians using local trails; another small park area for walking and picnicking. Included within the idyllic setting is the enhancement of the wildlife habitat in the river channel, and educational and interpretive exhibits.

Improvements at Castaic Lake from grant funding are general development, construction of the picnic shade structure, and restroom building refurbishment.

Dance DTLA at Grand Park

It’s back! Dance DTLA in Grand Park! Show off your moves or learn fresh, new steps Friday nights in Grand Park next to the Kenneth Hahn Administration building. Dance nights, where you learn new dance moves, begins June 23 and DJ nights, when you can shimmy with the shakers, begins June 30. The Fridays alternate ending September 1.

Grant funding was provided for improvements to the community room and included beautifying existing restrooms, access points, and roofing while keeping everyone comfortable and entertained with upgraded HVAC and audio visual systems.

Deukmejian Wilderness Park

In the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, at the northenmost extremity of the City of Glendale, the Deukmejian Wilderness Park occupies a rugged 709-acre site. The park offers streamside woodlands and scattered remnants of big-cone spruce woodland. The park also offers visitors trails with spectacular views of the Cresenta Valley and the Los Angeles basin.

Grant funding was used for developing and improving the Deukmejian Wilderness Park which included the development of a new trail head, construction of roads and parking lots for both vehicles and horse trailers, construction of an outdoor amphitheater classroom, development of picnic areas, construction of a restroom building and information kiosks which included an environmental display area. Funding was also used for the installation of the utility infrastructure and partial preservation of the stone Le Mesnager Barn.

Additional grant funding was used to provide improvements to walkways, equestrian paths and fireroads. Finally, funding was used for the renovation of an equipment storage building.

Agoura Hills Recreation Center

The Agoura Hills Recreation & Event Center is open to the general public for a variety of programs and activities. The building serves as the new home for City of Agoura Hills’ Community Services staff as well as the Cultural Arts Council. In addition, there is a dedicated space for Senior Citizen programs and classes and a state of the art Teen Center, just to name a few things!

Grant funding was provided for the construction of the recreation center and the new outdoor education/interpretive center. More grant funding is being provided for the construction of a new trailhead and trail from the Recreation Center to connect to existing trails in the surrounding Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area and the regional trail system.

Horsethief Canyon Park

Horsethief Canyon Park is a 50 acre park which includes a small and large dog park, play equipment, shade shelter, restrooms, picnic tables, benches, soccer fields, hiking trails and protected wilderness horse trails.

Grant funding was used for the development of Horsethief Canyon Park. Development included construction of soccer fields, a picnic area, a tot lot, volleyball & horseshoe courts, as well as wildlife corridor enhancement and construction of a nature trail, restroom, and other infrastructure improvements.

Grant funding was also used for the construction of additional multi-use trails in Horsethief Canyon Park which helped improve circulation and accessibility in the Park.

Finally, funding was used for the widening and clearing of the Poison Oak Trail and construction of a hilltop picnic area which included installation of picnic tables, benches, hitching posts and the planting of trees.
